Relocating to the midwest

Sunset Just short of two years after leaving Independence, MO, for what I imagined would be my last move, I have relocated to a new neighborhood that's pretty close to the old neighborhood.  Several weeks ago I conceded to Tucson's unrelenting (and in my case, unhealthy) heat and departed the desert southwest to return to the midwest. I left Tucson three days after the first day of spring; the temperature was already 98 degrees at 10:30 a.m. and was expected to continue to rise. Having slogged through two years of brutal heat, I knew I was doing the right thing by saying farewell to those sunny blue skies. I've moved into a house in Lawrence, KS, about 35 miles west of the Kansas City metropolitan area. Real spring is happening here -- the air is cool, humidity is doing its thing, trees are leafing out, redbuds (my favorite spring tree) are in bloom, grackles are grackling, the neighborhood mockingbird is getting his songs on, and squirrels are already inspecting my car to ...
